Hungary never joined the Allied forces in wwii. They were invaded by the Russian army which, under cold war Soviet terms came to mean “liberated by”.
Thank you, Susanna, for your feedback. I believe, however, that Hungary is correctly classified as a country that switched sides from the Axis to the Allied Powers during World War II. Note that the Soviet Union was a crucial member of the Allies at that time, and Hungary’s “liberation” from Germany by Soviet forces led Hungary to sign an armistice with the Allies and to declare war on Germany in January 1945. In fact, the presence of German forces in Hungary was a result of Hungarian leaders attempts to contact British and American forces in order to switch sides.
