The website says
“Friedman says he is not an absolutist rights theorist but is also “not a utilitarian,” but believes that “utilitarian arguments are usually the best way to defend libertarian views”.
The quote omits words in the middle of the passage, hence is not a correct quote. The actual passage reads:
“I believe that utilitarian arguments, or consequentialist arguments more generally, are usually the best way to defend libertarian views.”
It isn’t a seriously misleading misquote, but it does miss the fact that I am proposing consequentialist arguments, not specifically utilitarian ones.
