On Arnold van Gennep’s page the second paragraph engages in an intellectual argument against van Gennep’s ideas:
“However, in history this has not always been the case, leading others to regard the social group as a controlling force dominating individuals and taking away their freedom. Humans should work to ensure that individual freedom is not taken away by dominating social groups and learn to live in harmony, valuing each individual and helping them to fulfill their role in society. Understanding the need for time and recognition of the liminal phase as humans pass through transitions in life is a valuable contribution to ensuring that human society functions for the benefit of all.”
Who asked for the editor’s ideas? Your motto says “Research begins here,” but this one is clearly an extremely biased and argumentative article not even fit for general reference.
Thank you, Zecarias, for your comment.
The criticism of van Gennep’s ideas is actually from Durkheim, as explicated in the article, not a personal opinion of the editor. Perhaps it was not clearly expressed in the paragraph you mention.
The text will be revised to clarify the point being made in the introduction to the article.
