The picture said to depict the bombardment of Sveaborg (in the Baltic theatre of operations) is not correctly captioned. In fact it shows the bombardment of Bomarsund on the Aland Islands, showing among others the commander of the British Fleet Vice Admiral Sir Charles Napier (with the funny hat and a large handkerchief hanging from his back pocket) on the deck of HMS ‘Bulldog’. To his right, with white trousers, is Admiral Plumridge. This bombardment was on August 15th, 1854 from Bulldog with a 10 inch cannon shown in the picture. The main fortress surrendered the next day.
