Whatever written on Indian racing is only partially correct. In India, Mumbai (Royal Western India Turf Club)is the major horse racing center, and Indian Derby is a Grade I event usually run in every March, and the Prize money paid last year was over Rs. 1.25 Crore to the winner. Lot of famous jockeys from Ireland, England, South Africa, and France are riding regularly in India. Mike Kinane to Kerion Fallon to Richard Hughes are famous faces regularly come here. Second is Bangalore Turf Club, followed by Hyderabad Race Club. Mumbai has two subsidiary race courses – one at Delhi, and another at Pune. Bangalore Turf Club also run races at Mysore Race Club. Chennai (ex-Madras) and Ooty race clubs are infamous for regional bias and the racing there is just to be forgotten. Although the race course in Chennai (Guindy race course) is one of the finest in Asia.
